How does CBD oil taste?

Are you wondering how CBD oil tastes? Would it be okay to have it just like that or is it better to mix it in a smoothie or a salad, and have it? Too many questions about the same crossing your mind? Well, first-time users are often sceptical about CBD oil because they fear it will not taste as they thought it would. 

There is also a preconceived notion that it tastes grassy, almost like weed. But one can safely say that not all CBD oil tastes the same as multiple factors determine the taste of it like the flavour profile of the cannabidiol supplements, the extraction method, terpenes, and carrier oils.

Different types of CBD 

Classified into three, Isolate, Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum, their taste differs from one another.

Isolate CBD Oil is tasteless and does not have any earthy flavour to it as it does not contain a mix of various other compounds, and it contains (only) CBD.

Broad Spectrum CBD Oil does not contain THC but contains all the cannabinoids and terpenes that are found in Full Spectrum CBD Oil. However, without THC it can taste a bit different.

Full Spectrum CBD Oil contains a mixture of several cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids typically found in the Cannabis plant. It has a strong taste and traces of THC in it, which gives it an earthy, grassy flavour.

Terpenes – a primary reason CBD tastes the way it does

A certain, distinctive compound called terpenes are present in the cannabinoids that have many health benefits. The quantity and type of this terpene determine the unique or different taste of the CBD oil you are consuming. 

Taste also depends on carrier oil 

CBD also tastes the way it does because of the carrier oil because when it is combined with CBD oil, it changes the taste of the final product that comes to us.

Some commonly used carrier oils are as follows –

MCT Oil – This has no taste or smell, and those who want to experience the original taste of CBD oil can opt for this.

Coconut Oil – It is tasteless with hints of nutty flavour and earthy aroma.

Olive Oil – Extra virgin olive oil creates a smooth effect on the product.

Extraction methods of CBD oil

The extraction method plays a significant role in determining how CBD oil tastes. A few techniques leave a bitter compound that may not be very palatable. Look for the components and the method used to filter the product to give you a better sense of how it would taste

So, what does the original CBD oil taste like?

We would still say that the taste differs from brand to brand but, at the same time, we can tell you that it tastes like its natural self – earthy with hints of nuttiness.
